New York Times
For this New York Times editorial, I approached the assignment with a deep sense of responsibility. The story examined the alarming rise in suicide rates among Black adolescents—a subject that demands both honesty and care.My focus was on creating images that held space for the weight of the issue without exploiting it. Through quiet, atmospheric scenes and restrained portraiture, I aimed to reflect the emotional reality surrounding the topic: the isolation, the silence, the strength it takes to ask for help, and the urgency felt by families and communities.
The goal wasn’t to illustrate tragedy, but to honor the humanity of those most impacted—to make room for reflection, dignity, and the need for greater understanding. The result is a visual companion to the reporting that feels sensitive, thoughtful, and grounded in empathy.
