This photo essay explores the rich yet often overlooked history of Santa Monica’s Black neighborhoods, capturing the stories of resilience, community, and the ongoing fight for racial justice. Through intimate portraits and environmental shots, I sought to illuminate the lives of those whose contributions to the area’s culture and history have long been marginalized. The project reflects both the vibrancy and the struggles of the Black community in Santa Monica, shedding light on their experiences in the face of discrimination, gentrification, and erasure.
