Florida Classic for The Atlantic
This photo essay delves into the deep-rooted cultural significance of the Florida Classic, a storied college football game between Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Bethune-Cookman. Beyond the game itself, it’s a celebration of heritage, community, and the pride that runs through these historically Black universities. The electric atmosphere, the traditions, and the rivalry embody how subcultures—unique in their own right—carry universal themes of identity, belonging, and resilience. Through this lens, I sought to capture the power of sport as a cultural force that transcends the field, resonating deeply with the communities that hold it dear.
